A change of plan….

Well..I was going to knit a little jumper to go with the pants but I decided that since this baby is going to be born into some balmy Melbourne weather, Anita might appreciate a little singlet instead.  Mind you, I think this singlet could be worn over a t-shirt or skivy in a pinch as well.  I spoiled myself the other day and bought myself a copy of Australian Knitting.  I actually hadn’t seen it before but sometimes I find it can be hard to pick out fave magazines out of the heap that the newsagencies tend to cram into shelves!  On page 38 of the Summer issue lo and behold if there isn’t a pattern for a little baby singlet and matching pants. I wish I’d chosen to buy this magazine a week and a half ago hehehe Talk about re-inventing the wheel!  Anyhow, the pattern called for Panda ‘Regal’ 4 ply which is the yarn I’d used for the frills on the pants.  I decided to use the Cleckheaton bamboo instead.  (wouldn’t be my work if I wasn’t substituting yarns!  Mentioned to the lady at the Sassafras wool store yesterday on a drive to the Dandenongs with Jackson and Justin that I was going to try and break myself of that habit this year!  Oh well….next project!

Picture of neck stitches all ready to be used to a little neck line consisting of one row of purl and a casting off row.  I tell you what, those 9 stitch shoulders were like knitting with cooked spaghetti on toothpics!  Even though, I was using a brand new Knit Picks circular that I also treated myself to at the knitting shop yesterday.  There’s less of a slide with this polished wooden needle but still….the bamboo really wanted to slide and loops wanted to be looser so I really had to concentrate on pulling them taut as I worked.

There’s a lovely little split down the bottom of this singlet making it a tunic type bottom.  I’m tossing up whether to add the lace on to the bottom of this or not to match the pants.  Still staring at it …deciding….  The next step will be to lay out all my pieces from Jackson’s pants, Jackson’s hoodie, the little frilly pants and this singlet on the dining room table and get ready to block and sew all my hard work from January as January draws to a close.  Then I will make a final decision on whether or not to add lace to the singlet.

Photos do not do this yarn justice by the way. It’s far more ‘peachy’ than in these pics.  I’ll see if the next lot of pics will demonstrate better what colour this is!
