Sidetracked….

I ordered a pattern to make some modern cloth nappies for Jackson and it arrived in yesterday’s mail!  I was so excited!  In the pattern, it suggests using some recycled fabrics to make the outer covers with.  It mainly suggested recycling woollen jumpers because of their ability to repel the moisure and not suck it up like cotton based fabrics tend to do.  I had this hairbrain idea to maybe try knitting a cover since mohair was mentioned as one of the ideal fibres for the fabric for the outer nappy covers.  I drafted a paper pattern and have started to make the shape and document how I’m doing it as I go.

I’ve paused for a little bit though to block and finish the rest of January’s work before starting February’s.  I’ll keep you posted on how this goes.  The rest of the sewing and piecing seems relatively easy on a normal sewing machine except for the sewing of fold over elastic which I’m going to have to learn as I’ve never done any stretch sewing before.  Wondering how it will go with a handknitted woollen fabric too….watch this space! Using a 50g ball of Shepherd ‘Baby Wool Merino’ that I had in my stash left over from when I made tiny socks for Jackson before he was born.  Yep I’m making use of my stash!  Yipppeee!  Will see if this goes the distance on 3.25 mm needles or if I need a 2nd ball.  It’s 4 ply and machine washable.
